What to Expect in a Liss Legal Strategy Session

As a business owner, sometimes you may have a couple of questions or need legal advice on a particular issue. But if you don’t regularly work with a lawyer and don’t want to pay a retainer fee for a short question, what’s the best way to get the advice you need?

At Liss Legal, we offer 30-minute strategy sessions for this exact purpose.

Here’s what you can expect before, during and after your legal strategy session, along with the types of businesses we work with and what we types of questions we can address.

What’s a Strategy Session?

A Strategy Session is a 30-minute session with Danielle to answer questions and give you customized advice for your legal strategy. Depending on your preference, you can have your session over Zoom or by phone.

A strategy session is a versatile option for your business and can include:

Questions on a particular legal topic. If you want to see how an area of law applies to your business, a strategy session can give you a chance to review if and how a particular area of law will impact your business.

Document review and brief revisions. Do you need to walk through some potential revisions to a contract with a lawyer? Or do you need a lawyer to review certain legal clauses and help you understand their meaning? This can be done in a strategy session. Usually, Zoom is the best way to do this so we can share and collaborate on the document

Assistance moving forward with a decision. Unfortunately, when faced with a decision with big potential consequences on the legal side, many people freeze and don’t know how to move forward. In a strategy session, we can talk through your choices so you know how your business will be impacted by the various options.

Initial conversations for new products or service offers. If you aren’t sure how a new product or service might impact your business, discussing the potential change during a strategy session can help you determine your next steps.

Booking Your Legal Strategy Session

The first step to taking part in a legal strategy session is simple. Once you’ve decided you’d like to schedule, submit a request.

Then, we’ll contact you to set up a time. You’ll receive an email with all of the next steps you will need to take. Easy peasy!

Before Your Legal Strategy Session

After you schedule your session, we’ll collect information for your invoice. We will discuss what you’d like to cover in the session and may ask for follow-up information.

If you aren’t sure what you need to discuss, beyond a general topic, that’s extremely common. Some clients send us a Google Doc with specific questions. Others tell us generally what they want to discuss and we dive in during the session.

Two business days ahead of your scheduled session, you’ll receive an invoice, which will be due prior to the start of the session.

During the Legal Strategy Session

This is when the magic happens. We’ll meet to cover your questions and make sure you walk away with a better handle on your options or next steps.

If you aren’t able to accomplish everything you need in the session, it may be possible to retain Liss Legal to work with you on any next steps.

For example, if you aren’t sure whether to hire a contractor or employee and you decide to hire an employee, you may next need to create an employment agreement for that role. Depending on what you need, we may be able to help. (And don’t worry, if we can’t, we’ll tap into our referral network to do our best to send you to someone with the skills you need.)

After the Legal Strategy Session

After your session, we offer limited email support for questions for up to one week to clarify topics discussed during the session. If additional work is needed, then you’d need to enter an engagement agreement with Liss Legal.

Of course, if something else comes up, you are always welcome to schedule a second session. We’ve had many clients who book strategy sessions when things come up in their business and they just need to ask a few questions.
